Bolangir win maiden title in OCA Inter-Dist Women Tournament

Bolangir achieved a glorious success by winning the Women Inter-District Cricket Tournament for the first time at Nimpur Ground here today. Riding on a half-century by former India opener Madhuri Meheta and her 91-run partnership for the third wicket with Sarita Meher, Bolangir beat defending champions Cuttack in the final by three wickets.

Earlier in the semifinals, Cuttack crushed Balasore by 286 runs, while Bolangir got the better of Bhubaneswar by five wickets. Led by former India off-spinner Rasanara Parwin, champions Bolangir received the trophy a cash prize of Rs 15,000, while runners-up Cuttack took home Rs 10,000. The tournament was organised by Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) from May 8.

OCA vice-president Adhip Das graced the presentation ceremony as chief guest and handed over the trophy. OCA treasurer Satya Mohanty and joint-secretary Sanjib Dutta were present on the occasion as guest of honour. The 32 completed matches in the tournament produced five centuries, 18 half-centuries and 41 hauls of three or more wickets in an innings.
